Grasshoppers VI vs Schaffhausen II

Robin v Luca

Robin started in first position against a slightly younger opponent who was clearly very mobile and fit and the harder hitter of the two. Robin however, as he always does, was playing with great control and varied his shot pace and placement exceptionally cleverly. The speed and skill of his opponent meant that he had to put in a lot of hard work in order to win each point. The first game was really hard fought but Robyn did really well to win it 11 to 8. The second game followed much a similar pattern with Robin again being able to close it but in greater control 11 - 6. In game three his opponent was able to dominate a bit more and Robyn show some signs of fatigue to lose a tight game 12 - 10. But in the fourth Robin was able to pull himself together and really fight to make sure he closed out the match 11 to 6.

Stef vs Andi

Stef played at number two against Andy from Schaffhausen.   This was again a matchup of experience against energetic youth. Stef did very well at controlling the long line balls. Andy showed a lot of fight but overdid the hard hitting a bit and in the end Stef was able to control most points with good controlled long line shots. All three games were pretty similar with Stef dominating throughout and winning them fairly easily as he consistently won 2 out of three points. The final score was 11 to 6, 11 to 4 and 11 to 5. Andy showed a bit of frustration over not being able to impose himself on the match, but was a very clean and respectful opponent.

Tom vs Claudio

Tom also played against a younger opponent, Claudio. His opponent was playing his first  inter club match. Claudio showed a lot of fights and hard hitting. In the first game, Claudio got off to a really good start building a handy lead by mid point. Tom was able to pull it back and close out the game 11 to 7. In the second came Tom was able to stay ahead throughout but Andy fought to keep it competitive, losing it 11 - 7. The third game was much the same with Tom playing a lot of winners mixed in with quite a few mistakes winning the game 11 – 9. An an exceptionally clean and friendly match went three love to grasshoppers.

Jochen vs George

The last match of the day had Jochen playing George. The match turned into a really hard fought up and down. The younger George from Schaffhausen was able to win a tight fought first game with a lot of excellent counter drops and hard running., 11- 7. The second game followed a similar format with George again winning 11- 8. In the third game Jochen came back strongly and was able to win it with a lot of much better long lines and tighter drop shots 11 to 8. In the fourth game Jochen played even better and it looked like his opponent no longer believed in his ability to win. The fourth game ended quickly 11 to 3. The fifth game started much like the fourth had been with Jochen dominating. However, at 7 to 3 down the game changed completely after a couple of lucky points, George regained self belief and started hitting his shots cleanly and getting his drops working. He turned the game completely and against expectations was able to close it out 12 to 10 and win the last consolation point for Schaffhausen.

Overall a good win for Grasshoppers 3-1 and a very clean friendly and enjoyable encounter.
